Day 4 - Rest and Recovery

I rolled over, looked at Sandra and said, "do you know what time it is?" "It's 10:30AM!!!!" Sandra and I haven't slept that late in forever! We missed breakfast, our coffee schedule was whacked, we missed walking to the Trevi Fountain before the masses. What the hell happened?!? Obviously, we needed the sleep and were finally shaking off the last little bits of jetlag.

Because we got such a late start, we decided to just walk over to Piazza Navona to Tre Scalini Ristorante to have a light brunch of salad and beer. Sandra had a Greek Salad and I had Caprese which had the most fantastic ball of Mozzarella di Bufala that I've ever had. Each bite was creamy deliciousness with the milk just squeezing out as my fork cut into it. Mmmmm......

After brunch we just kinda sat around outside our hotel and watched the crowds take pics at The Pantheon. Sandra had her heart set on going back to the fashion area to do a little shopping so, after resting for a bit, we headed out towards all the stores. There are 2 or more streets that make Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills look like Walmart. Seriously, we went into the Valentino store and I've never seen such a beautiful store/shop in my entire life. The walls, floor, stairwell and room dividers were all a grayish marble - stark, yet elegant. All the staff were impeccably dressed in black skirts and tops for the women and fitted black Italian suits for the men. It was as if the entire Milan fashion show worked part-time at Valentino in Rome. Let's just say that, on our third visit to the store that day, my lovely bride found something she just couldn't live without.

We then visited the Prada store and, though it wasn't quite as nice or "over-the-top" as the Valentino store, it was amazing and better than anything I've ever been in the States. Again, my lovely bride found something that she just couldn't live without....."when in Rome......"

After our exsplurgsion, we stopped for a drink and some food. I had a big-ass Fuller's London Pride and Sandra had the obligatory Grey Goose martini while we dined on a Napoli pizza. Seriously, every little hole-in-the-wall Ristorante in Rome has the best food. Why, oh why, can't food like that be had in the States? After a couple drinks, the rain started - single drops at first then it started to pour.....and we just sat there drinking it all in, so to say. Luckily, there was a guy selling umbrellas who just showed up out of nowhere. We ended up buying two of them and, by the time we were ready to leave - yes, you guessed it - the rain was over! Typical. Oh well, we have them for later.

Not a lot of pics taken yesterday. We went out at about 9:30, after dinner, and made the walk to the Trevi Fountain so we could get some pics with all the lights shining on it. Our luck - that day, there was some government legislation that was passed for gay rights and so they wanted to celebrate that by turning off the lights and, instead, projecting a rainbow flag onto it. Not impressed.

Oh well, thanks for reading about our adventures. Today, Day - 5, we took a car to Florence and have finally checked into a hotel with great wifi. Tomorrow, we'll be doing a 12 hour excursion to Cinque Terre. After that.....more adventures. Stay tuned!!!
